Resolved Question: why are mexicans known as the latin race?

i am white and have lots of mexican freinds and thay teach me spanish and i flip to a spanish channel and there is a person in crime and then hes latin and my lil brother (10) says those mexicans just cant stop but i telll him its not a mexican cant you read it was a guatamalen(not trying to offend them but thats what it said in the news) anyways not all people that cross the border are mexicans alright i have puerto rican freinds, guatemalin. salvadorian, nicaragua, cuba etc...why are latins known as thhe Mexicans.. they are not only mexicans alright , im saying this because of my friends whenever they hear something bad about then they got sad!!!! this is not fair to put the blame on them!!!!!! they are not the only latin race(once again) its not only mexicans there are more latin people!!!!!!!!...
